$1,250.00 includes: Course handouts, tower safety field manual, continental breakfast & boxed lunch for each day of training, Student t-shirt and gloves.
PA DOH EMS Con-Ed:
38.0 hours (15hrs. CPC & 23hrs. Other)
Pre-requisites:
18 yrs. or older, rope technician training and/or certification. This program is physically demanding, and students MUST be comfortable at height.
Equipment Needed:
Class III harness, boots or climbing style shoes, helmet with chin strap, twin lanyard, positioning lanyard. Med-Tex can provide individual equipment if needed.
This fast-paced Tower Rescue Technician program with Fall Protection Awareness has been developed to address the needs of rescue personnel and the various aspects of rescue operations at height. Through classroom training, practical application, and scenario-based instruction, responders attending this program will learn about the following:
- Scene size-up, Incident management, Hazard recognition, and Radiofrequency (RF) hazards.
- Tower types including tower cranes, water towers, amusement rides, smokestacks and more.
- Fall protection awareness.
- FAA markings & lighting.
- Physical and psychological limitations
- Tower climbing (ladders, step pegs, and lattice).
- 100% tie off utilizing twin lanyards/positioning devices and Establishing a hasty personal fall arrest system (PFAS)
- Engineered fall protection systems.
- Ground-based rescue tactics
- Use of aerial devices.
- Authorized Climber / Rescuer qualifications, and Unauthorized Climbers.
- Luffing boom & hammer head tower cranes.
- Horizonal line rescue systems.
- Tower based rescues.
- Obstructed climbing paths.
- Rigging calculations and forces.
- Compromised towers and components
- Vertical & horizontal traversing.
- Power ascenders
- Multi-pitch rescues.
- New technology and more.
Students will be required to complete 100% of the skills including:
- Climb up to 300′ and perform a rappel at that height.
- Horizontally travers a tower crane job arm 100′ above ground level
- Rig systems and perform at height independently under the supervision of an instructor.

- OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910, Subpart D (Walking-Working Surfaces)
- OSHA 29 CFR Part 1926, Subpart M (Fall Protection)
- ANSI/ASSP Z359 Fall Protection and Arrest Standards (Z359) Code (Various sections relating to safety requirements for lanyards, positioning lanyards, connectors, energy absorbers, full body harnesses, ladder climbing fall arrest systems, and self-retracting devices)
- National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE) Tower Climber Fall Protection Training Standard (CTS) (2015 Edition)
- – Authorized Climber & Rescuer
Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive the following certificates/certifications:
- Tower Rescue Technician
- ANSI Authorized Climber & Rescuer (Valid for 2 years)
- Fall Protection Awareness for Technical Rescue Personnel
